Andy Farnell in action talking procedural audio to sound designers

Procedural Audio pioneer, Andy Farnell was in Edinburgh (11th and 12th November) introducing sound designers to his extraordinary approach to designing sound.  These incredible methods involve creating sounds from first principles and are extremely useful in computer games, film, theatre and music.  Andy showed us how to design a helicopter sound that is completely configurable.  A procedural method will break down the helicopter’s sounds into its discrete sonic components and consider the acoustic circumstances under which these different elements operate and how they interact with one another. The technique leads to entirely flexible sound design that is not dependent on hard-to-record samples and completely context specific (see Raffaseder post below).
